Employee ownership with a personal touch

Bluetel is a technology company built on relationships. They develop content-driven multi-channel solutions to help businesses get closer to their customers. And when they were considering the transition to employee ownership, despite being in the middle of the coronavirus lockdown, they found that only Legal Clarity really understood what they wanted to achieve.

Bluetel founders Rob and Jan were approached with a buyout offer from another company; but after careful consideration, they realised that employee ownership was a far better way to preserve the company culture and help it grow. With close client relationships and a flat structure that rewarded talent from across the organisation, it made complete sense to leave the company to the people who made it a success.

To make this happen, Rob and Jan needed a legal team with a spirit of partnership and collaboration. Our team made sure that the aims and culture of the business were always the priority; with plain-speaking, flexible advice, and an approach as agile as Bluetel’s own.

In spite of the limitations imposed by lockdown, Legal Clarity took care of all the paperwork and kept the client in the loop with regular updates throughout the two-month transition. Delivering plain-speaking, serious legal guidance, while maintaining an informal relationship and always listening to everyone involved.

It’s a natural fit. The Legal Clarity team aren’t just lawyers, they’re human beings. We could trust them to take care of the legal stuff, but we also know they really got who were are and what we wanted to do. It just felt right.

As Bluetel embarks on a new chapter as an employee-owned business, their partnership with Legal Clarity is as important as ever, with Gary Davie on the board of directors and the constant reassurance of expert legal guidance.

It’s a natural fit. As Rob says, “the Legal Clarity team aren’t just lawyers, they’re human beings. We could trust them to take care of the legal stuff, but we also know they really got who were are and what we wanted to do. It just felt right.”
